CHIAROSCURO_ GENIUS LOCI WEIMAR

______The term 'chiaroscuro' gives the name to an oil painting technique developed during the Renaissance that uses contrasts between light and dark to model three-dimensional forms and spaces. Creating our new video-mapping piece we have been inspired by this technique used by many of the great painters from the sixteenth century, including Lucas Cranach.

The ‘Chiaroscuro' video mapping project give us the chance to connect two eras of the German history of art; from the renaissance painting by Lucas Cranach, full of biblical influences and realism to the contemporary abstract expressionism of Gerard Richter. Going through the work of other great painters who were also influenced by Lucas Cranach as Albrecht Dürer, Peter Bruegel, Adam Elsheimer, Emil Nolde or Paul Klee, we will capture through the ‘live painting' process the art of Cranach in the Cranachhaus building.
